This week’s Gold Star Teacher is Keri Lester, from Sehome High School!
Nominated by Tami Slack:
Keri is a Life Skills teacher at Sehome High. The Life Skills program helps youth with cognitive and/or physical disabilities learn to navigate life in their respective communities, be it school, the grocery store, restaurants, or home.
As a parent of a child with Down Syndrome, I am in constant contact with Keri. She is an advocate and voice for my child, and all those fortunate to have her mentorship, and guidance. You see, these young people will not go off to be nurses, lawyers, administrators, bank tellers, or attend college. They will, however, with the help of Keri Lester, be a person in our community who will add love, kindness, understanding, joy, and diversity.
It really does take a village to raise children with special needs. Keri is the teacher who works tirelessly to bring her students to an understanding of how the village works, and how to be a successful human being in that village. I am so thankful for Keri. She is the rock, and stability my daughter can always count on.
