A one day celebration seems lacking considering all we should be thankful for! Does your mom live nearby or are you separated by distance? Perhaps the most amazing thing about a mom is that even when she’s not close by, most of us ‘feel’ our mother’s love for us, as if she is right beside us. For the last 16 years, my mother lived just down the street. I had the joy of spending time with her in her later years. This year though, I won’t be buying her a gift. She went home to our Heavenly Father on New Year’s Eve. But, I have to say, I can still feel her love in spite of the separation. And that’s all it is, a short time of separation ...

Tulips or Snow?

I LOVE SNOW! Last fall, weather forecasts predicted a very cold winter and a HUGE snow storm. I could hardly wait! I raced to the store, stocked up on food, settled into my warm, cozy house and waited… and waited some more, but sadly no big snow that day or all winter.
Now, glimpses of spring are popping up all over my garden and I’m hoping it DOESN’T snow so my baby tulips won’t be damaged while waking from this gentle winter. Whether it’s tulips or snow that I’m hoping for, God is teaching me contentment; to enjoy each season I’m in instead of going overboard with planning for something in the distant future that may or may not happen.
So, instead of wishing for snow… again… I’ll smile when I walk along my sidewalk, see my baby tulips coming to life and remember God always gives me what I ...

Has There Been Some Pruning In Your Life Recently?

Is spring really here or is today’s sunshine just a tease of things to come? I don’t know the answer to that question, but my roses seem to. My wife, Sharon, always tells me it’s time to prune the roses on President’s Day. Well, yesterday I headed out to prune our roses and discovered I may be too late! They seem to think most of winter is over.
You know, in some ways we really are like roses. Pretty in place, yet able to inflict pain on those who come in contact with our thorns. Left un-pruned, we grow wild and out of control. When pruned, we become the visual representation of love, just like a beautiful red rose. Through God’s loving pruning and the wisdom of His Word, we can go from wild and out of control to become the visual representation of God’s love to those around us. Has ...

It's 2013 Already?

Here we are already in 2013! It happened so quickly for me… maybe you, too? Christmas was a wonderful time sharing memories with family and friends and anticipating what is to come with the New Year.
Okay, I will be honest with you. I want the ‘feeling’ of Christmas to last as long as I can get away with it. Remnants of wrapping paper, bows and even some holiday goodies can still be found around the house. I even secretly hope to find a straggling Christmas card or two in my mail box when I get home today.
Who says Christmas has to end on the 26th! I have decided to try and make that Christmas ‘feeling’ continue the whole year long. Despite my own circumstances or personal challenges, I want to offerr some much needed kind words, an extra hug or even spend some special time with a long ...

A Favor to Ask

My Daughter-in-law, Aimee, just loves anything Christmas. It’s fun to watch her eyes light up around the holiday. Perhaps you feel that way or someone you love does.
Here at PRAISE 106.5, we truly feel the Christmas season gives us an unprecedented opportunity to ‘find common ground’ with those who wouldn’t normally listen. Christmas music is a tool to introduce people to Christ. By playing classic Christmas songs, universally familiar to anyone looking for the sounds of the holiday, we can hold their attention and present the true meaning of Christmas.
I have a favor to ask of you. We hope to use the Christmas classics to help attract as many people as possible, especially non-PRAISE listeners. So when you hear the songs, pray that God, through His Holy Spirit, will draw people to PRAISE 106.5, where they'll hear the real story of Christmas and the Gospel message of Jesus ...

When Life Hangs In the Balance

I just recently returned from an incredible experience with my two sons. The three of us joined a friend who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, on a hunting trip to Alaska’s North Slope. That’s 9 hours of driving north of Fairbanks, landing us well above the Arctic Circle. What an incredible place! It felt surreal. There are no trees and no bushes. Nothing more than 6 inches tall unless it’s man-made. We were all amazed how beautiful the sunrise and moonrise were. It was an experience none of us will forget.
Our trip also had a sense of trepidation with it. Being 9 hours from any real civilization, much less medical treatment, an extra sense of caution permeated our actions. No slacking in the mental department there!
You never feel more alive than when life hangs in the balance. Much like our recent Fall SHARE here at Praise. A lot depends on your partnership with this ministry. We look forward to this every year! Over the past 14 years, we have met other families who go the same time and with whom we have a very special bond. This year we seemed more excited than usual…almost giddy.
I read somewhere the BEST part of any vacation is actually the anticipation and planning process…the journey and not necessarily the destination. I agree! Planning, packing and getting things together is actually a lot of fun for me. This reminded of my need to ‘enjoy the journey’ of everyday life, and not just focus on the ‘destination’ that is to come.
Wouldn’t you agree that heaven is our ultimate destination, but there is a lot to be done during the ‘journey.’ Lives to touch, people to love and hurts that need to be healed…cause, we ...

Never Too Young for a Fishing Pole

This week my grandson, Canyon, turns the Big 1! This is our first opportunity to spoil him with gifts. I got him his first fishing pole. I’m pretty sure he won’t actually fish with it, but he will beat things around the house with it for sure. Of course he will enjoy the packaging as much or more than the gift itself. The truth of the saying “it’s better to give than receive,” really come to life at times like this.
While anticipating the party and watching him light up at the presents, I got to thinking. If I get so much joy out of my grandson’s joy, how much more joy must God have when we are joyful at what He has given us?!? And, I wonder, how often does He give me the desires of my heart and I brush them off as if it is nothing? It’s really makes ...

A Fresh Start In A New Year

Happy New Year!
I’ve definitely heard that phrase a few times already this week! Have you? Maybe for you the New Year IS full of excitement, anticipation and promise. Perhaps, for others though as they look ahead to 2012, it may be a year of fear, sadness or frustration.
This year, I resolve to intentionally reach out to those around me who have a daunting year ahead, letting them know that God is near and He DOES care for them. It’s as easy as a smile, a hug, perhaps paying for someone’s coffee or even utility bills or offering to bring a meal to someone experiencing difficulty.
Will you join me in this resolution? God has a plan for their lives and WE can be a part of it! Let’s work together to make 2012 a Happy CARING New Year for those around us.

Why? Well, it’s practice. Without the practicing, I couldn’t hit the broad-side-of-a-barn come fall. I want to be at my best, not worst.
One area I’m prone to be complacent in practicing is in my prayers, devotions and almost all areas of my walk, especially when life is going smoothly like mine is right now. Being cancer free for 6 years, one doctor visit could be a game changer, putting me right back in the battle. That got me thinking am I practicing and strengthening my faith; keeping it a priority? Or, have I become complacent? What about you? What are you practicing in 2012? For me, in addition to my bow, I’ll be practicing my faith. Will you join me?
