PRAISE 106.5 DJ - Morning Show

I have been with CRISTA Media for over 30 years. In addition to hosting weekday mornings, I have also produced various shows, voiced radio commercials, & many other duties that have come my way. I’m originally from Florida, met my wife, Sharon, at Dordt College in Iowa, and moved to her hometown of Lynden. I started working at PRAISE and haven't stopped! Family: I have 2 boys; Hunter, and his beautiful wife Aimee (and their sons Canyon and Wyatt0, and Chase, and his lovely wife Samantha.

  • Well, we’ve made it to summer. I know the calendar is a little slow on this one but, trust me, it’s summer!  Just ask any 10 year old.  For a lot of families, there may be some form of camping in their summer plans.  Whether it’s in a tent or 40 foot motorhome, what is it about camping that we love?  I have got to hand it to moms who get out of their comfort zone and go places and sleep in things they themselves would NEVER do, EXCEPT for the kids.

  • I’m looking at that question in a different light recently, because I am now a part of both the Twitter universe as well as Instagram! As such, I have a gazillion people offered to me to follow. Being from an ancient civilization known as ‘baby boomers’ this is taking some getting used to. My theory, so far, has been to take it slow and not follow too many too soon.

  • I’m an avid outdoorsman. I love being out in the ‘garden’ God has given mankind. Although in a fallen state, it’s still spectacular, and my experiences have taught me that it can be scary too. A couple of weeks ago Sharon and I spent 5 days with friends...

  • Boy, how time flies. My wife Sharon and I just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. Actually, you could say our 66th anniversary. You see, when we got married, our pastor wrote the wrong date on the marriage certificate and so we actually have 2 anniversaries each year. It’s amazing that that much time has passed. I have to give my wife all the credit. I’ve lived with myself my whole life, it isn’t always easy, yet she has done so with wonderful grace all this time.

  • Probably depends on who you ask. For some, the rise of the crocus or the budding of the rhododendron has signaled the much anticipated arrival of Spring. For others, the thermometer hasn’t reached that special temperature of “just right”! Spring is a time of re-birth and fresh starts.

  • Well, Christmas and New Years are a thing of the past. I hope yours was as full of joy as mine was. This season really got me thinking about the Joy of the Lord and how the Bible says "our strength". Ever wonder why our own joy isn't mentioned as our strength? My celebration of the happiest time of the year, while very joyful, kept intersecting with sadness.

  • Bumps in the road of life…we all have them. Isn’t it funny how we rarely see them coming at us even though we know they will sooner than later

  • Well, summer is over, kids are back in school, and until next June my wife and I are returning to this thing we call a “normal routine.” You see Sharon is a first grade teacher...

  • This Sunday is Mother’s Day, a day set aside to say “Thanks!” for the bazillion things moms do for us. A one day celebration seems lacking considering all we should be thankful for!

Does your mom live nearby or are you separated by distance? Perhaps the most amazing thing about a mom is that even when she’s not close by, most of us ‘feel’ our mother’s love for us, as if she is right beside us.

For the last 16 years, my mother lived just down the street. I had the joy of spending time with her in her later years.  This year though, I won’t be buying her a gift. She went home to our Heavenly Father on New Year’s Eve.   But, I have to say, I can still feel her love in spite of the separation.  And that’s all it is, a short time of separation chalked full of sorrow and delightful memories. It is a time that will pass quicker than I think.

So, this weekend, will you celebrate your mom with all the gusto you have?  Let her know how much you appreciate her sacrifices for you. Don’t let the opportunity pass.  Time is marching on, join the parade!

  • Is spring really here or is today’s sunshine just a tease of things to come? I don’t know the answer to that question, but my roses seem to. My wife, Sharon, always tells me it’s time to prune the roses on President’s Day. Well, yesterday I headed out to prune our roses and discovered I may be too late!  They seem to think most of winter is over.

  • 5 Pathways To Summer Adventures

It's not often we take a road trip for over a week, but that's exactly what my wife Kathy & I did this past month. Aside from the engine on our beloved aging Toyota van deciding to "retire" on our ride home... we both felt this was a very good journey together. Read More
