Frankie's Friends Doggone 5K Run

Fetch your sneakers (and Fido or Fluffy) and join Frankie’s Friends Doggone Run anytime the weekend of September 5-7 for a unique, virtual 5k event that will put thousands of runners across America – and in the Puget Sound area – on the road to raise funds to help sick and injured pets who need lifesaving medical care. Funds raised from participants in the Seattle area will be used to save pets whose families are from the Seattle region.

It’s easy and fun! A virtual 5k is just like any other race—but without an official location. Participants register, create their own teams for fundraising – or participate as individuals – and then run, walk, bicycle or skip during the designated race weekend — when you want and where you want.

Registration is now open at www.crowdrise.com/DogGoneRunSeattle for individuals, teams and large groups in support of Frankie’s Friends. Once registered, individuals can start their own personal fundraising campaigns to benefit Frankie’s Friends in Puget Sound. Frankie's Friends is a non-profit foundation dedicated to finding cures and saving pets with cancer and other life-threatening pet diseases. All funds raised in Puget Sound are used to assist pets whose families need financial assistance to help cover the costs of life-saving emergency or specialty care. For more information about Frankie’s Friends, please visit www.frankiesfriends.com

Biblical Worldview As It Relates to Science

Seminar by Dr. Robert Carter

Download Poster/Flier
http://nwcreation.net/symposium/handouts/Robert_Carter_Sep_18_2014.pdf

Today, bible-believers are a great minority among practicing scientists and are subject to much persecution. Yet, modern science was developed on principles directly derived from Christian theology. Despite that history, science today operates without even token admission of its roots. How does this affect current scientific practices? Can we trust the conclusions of all those men and women in white lab coats? Can science operate in a moral and ontological vacuum?

We will examine three examples of how the turn from belief in God has affected modern thought: geomorphology (the shape of the earth’s surface), fossilization (the process of preserving the remains of living organisms), and genetics (specifically as it relates to the genetic history of mankind). In each of these subject areas, we will examine the evolutionary scenarios put forth.

SK8 Pink for Melanie Fundraiser

Melanie Sexton is a staple and manager of the Lynden Skateway.

Melanie, who is 35 years old, was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma that is triple negative, which limits the treatment options available. Melanie has completed her fourth round of Chemo, and though it has been a really tough, sick, achy, time; she has never lost her fighting spirit. In the times of good Melanie has been able to get out and enjoy some of the beautiful weather! The tumor has not shrunk, but has changed in some positive ways. What a beautiful thing hope is. This battle is going to be a long one, but she is hopeful that the tumors will be shrunk enough by the chemo to be able to complete the double mastectomy surgery she desperately needs.   Her wonderful husband Ryan, who is now the sole financial provider for the family is doing a great job of balancing working two jobs and helping to care for Melanie, but she needs him so much at home and easing this financial weight would provide her the opportunity to have him with her more often. Along with Ryan, Melanie has her incredible son Tavin who is 16 and such a huge help around the house, and seven year old twins, Ryker and Ryland "Little." Melanie is the rock of this family and needs to focus on fighting this cancer and getting well.
