OSO Mudslide Benefit Fun Run 10K/5K/1 Mile

Event Opens: Saturday, April 26th at 9:00am

Moment of Silence ceremony at 10:37am

Start of the Fun Run at 10:45a

Event Closes at 12:45pm

Arlington Airport Trail, Arlington, WA – The Arlington Runners Club has a 9 year history of hosting charity fun run events in Arlington with the race registration fees donated to local charities. Last year the Arlington Runners Club hosted a special fun run to benefit the families and victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, when we heard the devastating news of the Oso mudslide disaster and its impact on our community, we had to put on a fun run to raise money for our local community and have partnered with the Skagit Runners Club to do so. There will be a moment of silence at 10:37a, when the mudslide occurred, with a gong sounded for each person lost in the disaster. The actual Fun Run will start at 10:45a.

Registration is currently open for this event and 100% of the registration fees will be donated to three (3) local organizations which have been intimately involved in the entire rescue, recovery and ongoing relief efforts. The organizations selected as recipients of the monies raised are:

1. The Darrington Family Support Services in Darrington has been selected because of their ongoing support of work on the Darrington side of the mudslide.

2. The Oso Mudslide Relief administrated by the Oso Community Church in Oso has been selected because of their ongoing support of work on the Arlington side of the mudslide.

3. The Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue (SCVSAR) has been selected because of their tireless devotion to assisting individuals in crisis throughout Snohomish County. As their name states, they are volunteers and receive limited public monies. Most of the SCVSAR members donate their equipment as well as their time and expertise and we would like to help them purchase new or replacement supplies and equipment to help them continue their critical work in our community.

The center of activity for this event is located at the vacant lot on the northwest corner of 172nd Street NE and Airport Boulevard in the Smokey Point community in Arlington. We are expecting more than 1,000 participants for this event. Registration is open now.

Visit our website at or our Facebook event page at or email us at

The Arlington Runners Club is a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) organization which host 5 events each year. The registration monies raised are given to a local charity. This year’s events are: 1. River & Rails Run (March 22nd, the mudslide occurred during the event) – the proceeds go to Cocoon House which works with at-risk teens. 2. Walk & Roll Run (May 17th) – the proceeds go to Eagle Wings disAbility which works with the special needs community. 3. Rescue Run (September 20th) – the proceeds go to the Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue Operations Support Unit. 4. Airport Run for HOPE! (October 18th) – the proceeds go to Housing Hope which works with distressed and low income families with emergency, temporary and long-term housing needs. 5. Christmas Run (December 6th) – historically the funds went to a local chapter of Toys for Tots, this year we will be donating the money to the Oso relief efforts.

Key To My Heart Father - Daughter Banquet

Every parent wants their child to have success and happiness in their relationships and career. Given the current girl-harming culture impacting our daughters, parents often fear the worst. The good news is that there are a growing number of fathers who are taking seriously their role as primary guardian and protector of their daughter's growth into womanhood.   From the first years of a girl's life her father is larger than life. She looks up to him, and craves his admiration, respect, and affection. Child psychologists have written volumes on the realities concerning the Father/Daughter connection. Daughters who are close to their fathers exhibit less anxiety and withdrawn behaviours. And the likelihood that daughters engage in premarital sex, drug use, and alcohol plummets when their dads are involved in their lives.   'The Key to My Heart Banquet' is a marker of maturity for every girl participating. A father who takes the pledge to maintain close relationship and provide a covering for his daughter is setting a standard of dignity and honor for the way she should be treated by the men in her future. Each father commits to protect his daughter in her choice for emotional and sexual purity, and to actively engage in helping her to make wise choices.   The Banquet is a celebration of emerging young women empowered to live with wisdom and grace, joined by committed fathers/mentors motivated to equip and protect.   The event is for girls ages 11-18.   Ticket Includes:  - three course meal  - motivational speaker (Tia MacDougall from Empowering Life Series)  - silver pendant (with engraved Song of Solomon 6:3)  - silver key (engraved S.S. 6:3)  - white rose  - live band  -e-mailed photo  - event video on website.

Admission is $50 Father/Mentor and Daughter (over $180 value); $25 per second daughter.

The Mouse That Roared

The Lynden Performing Arts Guild presents The Mouse That Roared - a hilarious, rib-tickling comedy. The tiny European nation of the Duchy of Grand Fenwick is furious about unfair U.S. trading practices, so they send an army to invade New York City, march up Broadway, and accidentally capture the world's newest and most destructive bomb. Then they have to figure out what to do with it.

This rare comedy uses the magic of the theatre to invite audiences to enjoy the delight of the "impossible." The Mouse That Roared is a quirky classic of world literature, a poignant tale of political morality, and a hilarious, ultimately triumphant portrait of international relations from the perspective of the little guy.

Performances are at The Claire – the Claire vg Thomas Theater – in the Dutch Village Mall, under the windmill at 655 Front Street in Lynden. The show opens on Thursday May 1 and runs through Sunday May 18 2014.

For the 15th year, Interfaith Coalition will host Choir Fest, a spring celebration of musical diversity by 11 different choirs from congregations around Whatcom County.

Choir Fest will be held at the Church of the Assumption (2116 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham) on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 1 pm.  Each choir will sing an individual selection of its own choosing, followed by all the choirs --- expected to be more than 225 voices ---  coming together for two special selections.

Leslie Guelker-Cone, Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Studies at Western Washington University, will direct the combined choir. Dr. Guelker-Cone, who has served as music director for churches for more than 25 years, in addition to work as a choral adjudicator, honor choir conductor and guest clinician, has selected Glory, Glory Hallelujah and Verleih’ uns Frieden (Grant Us Peace) for the combined choir.

Spiritual music, from traditional to gospel, performed by choirs large and small, will be featured. Although the concert is free, offerings to benefit Interfaith’s programs of homes, healthcare and shelter for all, are welcome.

Apologetics Symposium: "The Biblical Basis for Apologetics"

Dr. Fernandes shows from the Scriptures that Christian Apologetics (the rational defense of the faith) is clearly based in the Scriptures. The Bible speaks about God revealing Himself to man in His creation and in man's conscience. And, the Apostles defended the faith using both eyewitness testimony and their own testimonies. Hence, traditional apologetics is biblical. Dr. Fernandes will also discuss different ways to defend the faith.

Dr. Phil Fernandes is the president of the Institute of Biblical Defense, which he founded in 1990 to teach Christians how to defend the Christian Faith. He is also the pastor of Trinity Bible Fellowship in Silverdale, WA, and teaches philosophy, world religions, theology, and apologetic's for CrossPoint Academy and the Imago Dei Institute (formerly Cascade Bible College).
The NW Creation Network organizes a monthly educational Apologetics Symposium at Cedar Park Church in Bothell, WA.
The programs customarily occur on the 3rd Thursday evening, and feature presentations by speakers, scientists, and authors who are dedicated to defending the Bible.

The events are free and open to the public and suitable for ages 11 and up. Please help us spread the word of these important new educational programs by forwarding this to homeschool groups, teachers, pastors, and others concerned about the defense of faith in an environment of competing worldviews.

Admission is free  |  Sponsored by Northwest Creation Network
