So Loved
4 3

Distractions. That's what my friend Kathy calls all the trappings of Christmas. Fun, twinkling, time-consuming, often expensive distractions. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with all of the things we do at Christmas, UNLESS they distract us from the meaning and message of Christmas, which is...

So loved.

For God SO LOVED the world that He gave His one and only Son.

You are so loved. God sent Jesus to earth because He so loves you. Mary was chosen because God so loves you. The King of all Kings gave up the glory of heaven because He so loves you. He humbled himself even to the deep humility of death on a cross because He so loves you.

Christmas is not a once-a-year pseudo-religious gorging on material things and succulent foods. Christmas is a daily acknowledgment that you are so loved. And I am so loved. And your angry neighbor is so loved. And your children are so loved. And every human creation that has ever breathed has been so loved. And this love has changed everything.

Enjoy the gifts! Enjoy the tree! Enjoy the songs! Enjoy the lights! And let everything you see and everything you do whisper to your heart every moment of this Christmas season...” I am so loved.”

Thanks so much for this reminder Lisa! It's sad how quickly the distractions of Christmas take the place of the meaning for the season.

@ACarbon I know what you're saying and there is some truth to it. However, Christmas was meant to celebrate Christ's birth and to avoid the secular activities going on. Unfortunately, people have changed the simplicity and beauty of Christmas and made it commercial and party-like.

  • Making a difference is rewarding, but no one ever said it was safe. Just ask Franklin Graham and his team at Samaritan’s Purse, one of the world’s leading relief organizations. Several years ago, a global threat began to appear, in the form of the Ebola virus. The inspiring story is told in “Facing Darkness,” a one-night Fathom theater event.

Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes might give you something other than a blister…it could give you perspective. That’s what happened to Shannon DeGarmo, a wife and mom who is learning to be a “Bounce Back Woman.”

I wonder how different life would be if we were able to truly let go of our past mistakes. Our friend Matthew West loves to take real life moments and turn them into songs.

Some people hear laughter in the rain. Maybe you just hear rain. Our friend Tim Storey is here to help.

When we’re struggling, there are words we need to hear, and sometimes those words can be challenging. It’s happened to Andy Andrews.

If you’ve ever felt like you desperately need a second chance…or a 10th chance, Jon Weece has good news. He shares a story that reminds us how we can always get back up.
