Typically, if someone were to ask me if I have a problem with pride, I would answer “no, I don’t think so”…until I listened to a message from Atlanta pastor Andy Stanley. He pulled back the curtain for me on what is one of the most destructive sins we, as humans, struggle with.
It made me think, am I really humble like Jesus says we should be? Not self-interest, but real caring, loving? No, too often it’s about me. I fake humility, but underneath I crave recognition. I’m too touchy, slow to admit fault, keeping people at arm’s length so they can’t see the real me. Andy Stanley (and Jesus) say, pride needs to die.
I’d like to put pride to death! To be vulnerable and transparent, to give others credit, and not worry about my getting credit. But it can’t happen on my own. It’s God’s work. To kill pride in me so relationships can live and thrive!
