When you examine the educational landscape over the last 200 years you find the following pattern. Propositions are conveyed in a classroom by a professor to a group of students who upon learning are tested. If they test well, and complete their studies they graduate. Voila, education complete. But this is a comparatively new model. Prior to the Modern period educational models were in a word, more human in that they were mentored, and infused with the practical wisdom of personal experience.
