As you read this, perhaps you are making your summer vacation plans. Maybe you look forward to it – or it might cause you a lot of extra stress. I read somewhere that the BEST part of any vacation is actually the anticipation and planning process. It’s the journey – not necessarily getting TO the destination. I would have to agree. The process of planning, packing and getting things together is actually a lot of fun for me. The UN-packing…not so much!
Well this year, my little nest is empty and all the kids are busy with their jobs and their own plans. So instead of getting sad and depressed, I have resolved to enjoy a quieter, less stressful, non-traveling summer. It’s just another leg of my journey. I was reminded that we need to enjoy the journey of everyday life, and not be only focused on the ‘destination’ of an exciting trip to come.
Yes! Heaven is our ultimate destination, but there is a LOT to be done in the meantime – during the journey. Lives to touch, people to love, and hurts that need to be healed. Because – no, we aren’t there yet!
To quote a famous songwriter… “LIFE is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” I hope you are able to enjoy YOUR journey wherever it may lead this summer.
