This is the time of year that we celebrate our freedom. Of course freedom for our Country—but there are other types of ways to be freed from something. Gil recently called us one morning and shared that he grew up incredibly abused both physically and emotionally. Gil harbored a lot of anger towards his dad and eventually ended up serving 15 years in prison. He’s been out of prison 6 years now and didn’t know how he would react to being out in the world after being so institutionalized. Gill made his way to a church. The people there, he said, were so loving and took him in knowing his past. Gil says, “I can honestly say now that I forgive my dad for all the abuse towards me and the rest of the family. Before, when I was in to drugs and serving time in prison—I didn’t have any room for love.”
Freedom. It’s found in forgiveness, loving people from a little church, your past. . . your future.
“Forgiveness is just another name for freedom.”
