When my wonderful husband Dom and I got married, we had no idea we would be spending the first 2 and a half years living apart on either side of the border waiting for his Canadian Immigration to be completed. For those who have had to navigate this process in recent years, with families on either side, you KNOW how hard, expensive and frustrating it can be. It was definitely a lesson in patience, long suffering, and a bunch of other fruits of the spirit too. IT WAS HARD! I got to the point where I would refer to our luggage that we each would haul across the border every few days as our “GO” bags. Many days I was in tears, tired from the sheer exhaustion of the constant travel, juggling of our families, two churches, two careers, two households and all the chores that go with them.
Our commutes across the border were long and often delayed or even cancelled with trips to the immigration office. Most nights I would go home to an empty house and a stressed out cat and watching reruns of NCIS on Netflix.
Now, here we are, 33 months later and so very thankful that we are FINALLY living as man and wife under the same roof. It’s only been about a month, but my husband is enjoying his new job, an 18 minute commute to work and dinner with his wife each night and our much happier cat. (Her fur isn’t falling out now…she no longer looks like Yoda!)
I’m here to tell you that God’s plans and His timing are never OUR timing…but it is always perfect. If you are waiting on something, an answer, a diagnosis, a relationship, immigration, KNOW that God hears the cries from your broken heart and your prayers of quiet desperation. He is WITH you! His love is constant and NEVER fails. If you need more proof you can ask my husband and our cat.
