Ever have a dream dashed?
I can vividly remember being 7 years old and invited by a neighbor to go to my first Major League Baseball game. I was so excited.
The morning of the game, I jumped out of bed and ran into my parents’ room. they were still sleeping, and woke up my mom. She took one look at me and said “You’re not going anywhere.”
I was crushed. I had Chicken Pox! Ugh.
This story flashed through my mind this week when I heard about the small New Zealand town of Kiakoura, cut off from the rest of the country and being evacuated after the huge earthquake. My wife and I are headed to New Zealand in March and Kiakoura is one of our stops. Perhaps the highlight of the trip! Well, it turns out, the ranch we are headed to was not really affected and, once the road is fixed, will be accessible again. Whew!
Have you had hopes and dreams dashed? Perhaps something way more important than a place to visit? Think Jesus ever had a dream dashed? I don’t know, but, I do know he was disappointed his disciples didn’t “get it” until after the resurrection. He didn’t come to prevent dashed dreams, but to assure us that he has something better in store for us! Eternal Life with the Father. And, because that is dependent on His work on the Cross, it cannot be dashed.
That is good news indeed!
