World Concern Calls for Week of Prayer for Haiti | November 14-20
___________
As the impoverished, disaster-stricken nation of Haiti plummets further into political, social, and economic chaos, Christian humanitarian organization, World Concern, is calling on the global church and others to pray for Haiti.
“The situation in Haiti is deteriorating daily,” expressed World Concern President, Nick Archer. “People in Haiti talk about things being ‘the worst they have seen in living memory.’ We need to pray and ask God to move in the midst of the chaos and strengthen His church to be the light that the nation of Haiti needs.”
Haiti has experience increasing violence, including kidnappings, assaults, rape, and murder, as gangs control most urban neighborhoods. A fuel shortage has halted transportation and led to the closure of numerous hospitals that cannot find fuel to run generators needed to operate. Haiti experienced another failed election, following the assassination of its president, Jovenel Moise, on July 7, 2021.
The southern peninsula of Haiti was also devastated by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Aug. 14, 2021, pushing the disaster-stricken island nation further into crisis. Some affected areas are still waiting for aid, and rebuilding efforts have been hindered by the problems.
World Concern headquarters and global staff will set aside time and gather each day next week to pray specifically for Haiti, following these themes:
- Monday: World Concern staff and other NGO staff in Haiti
- Tuesday: Haiti’s economy
- Wednesday: The church in Haiti
- Thursday: Leadership/government/political situation and security in Haiti
- Friday: The people of Haiti
NGO partners or those that work in Haiti, U.S. churches, donors, and others are encouraged to pray as well. Follow World Concern on social media for daily prayer points, scripture verses, and photos to guide prayer.
