Why do we struggle to feel God’s presence despite our praying and leaning into our faith? Most people don’t hear an audible voice from God, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t there. Even people in the Bible went years without obvious signs from God, but God didn’t walk off. He speaks to us in many different ways. A mature faith may entail being able to do what you’re doing, which is continue to seek Him, even when you don’t get the emotional reward of the obvious Word from God.

This question. Tara says, she prays to God and she’s convinced He hears, but she never hears from him. “I don’t feel him near.” She says, “I see his work around me, but I don’t feel him around. What am I doing wrong? I know God still loves me and that I don’t need to be afraid and ashamed, but why can’t I hear him? Thank you for listening to me.” Says Tara.
Short answer, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. The people in the Bible, they go years, decades without some kind of obvious sign or word from God. It’s just the human experience. I find that to be more true than not. Most people do not hear an audible voice, hear something in an obvious way, but God’s still there and I can’t figure it out. But that’s the experience. I mean, literally decades, and I know people are spiritually mature. They’ve gotten to the point where, yeah, when I was young, this sort of thing would happen to me all the time. Now, not so much. But God didn’t walk off. It’s just your relationship is different and a mature faith may entail being able to do what you’re doing, which is continue to seek him even when you don’t get the emotional reward of the obvious word from God.
