Brant and Sherri, discuss the importance of recognizing the humanity of service workers such as cashiers at stores like Walmart, Target, or Starbucks. They are people like you who have their own lives, hopes, and dreams. As Christians, we should consider ourselves as servants to others, and it’s important to remember the humanity of those we interact with in our daily lives.

Brant:
Yes, I have news for you regarding the person who checks you out at Walmart or Target or Starbucks or wherever. Here’s the news theme,
Big news, sweeping!
Sherri:
Listen, everyone listen up.
Brant:
Big important news. The news is that person who’s checking you out is a human being just like you are. How about that?
Sherri:
Hey!
Brant:
How about that? My daughter made this observation this week. She’s like, “They don’t think I’m human. Dad.”
Sherri:
She works at Starbucks.
Brant:
Starbucks. It’s so weird. She lives in the same neighborhood they do. She’s got hopes and dreams…
Sherri:
Just like you.
Brant:
…relationships. Like, this person has a family, has a story, and maybe you’re already aware of that. Maybe it’s just me, but apparently it’s not, because my daughter’s making this observation, and I’ve experienced it too. As soon as you’re on that end of a transaction, you’re like a robot or a servant, but if you’re a believer in Jesus, you are a servant to servants. This person is every bit as important as you, and in fact, you should consider yourself less important than that person. It’s just a reminder. You’re probably already aware of that. Maybe I’m just talking to myself on this, but, you probably will interact with people like that today, maybe in the next few minutes, and maybe it’s not a bad idea to just keep that in mind.
