What an Awesome God

What does it mean that God is awesome? We use the word for so many ordinary things, but it is far from a description of the ordinary. Awesome means extremely impressive or daunting! When something or someone is awesome it inspires us to admiration, apprehension, and even fear.

We aren’t comfortable with the idea of God being someone we should fear—but if we are to really know Him, we need to accept every part of Him. God is the most loving, compassionate, and merciful being in the world; and He is also perfectly holy and just. How are we to approach such a God?

God made the way. He came to us. He even became one of us in the person of Jesus Christ. It is through the life of Jesus that we come to know the nature of God. And it is through the death and resurrection of Jesus that we can know God. As it says in John 1:12 …

But to all who believed Him (Jesus) and accepted Him (Jesus), He gave the right to become children of God.

That changes everything, doesn’t it? The awesome God of the universe is our father! And He is the perfect father. He is not a dictator, and not a manipulator. He is a provider. He is a comforter. He is a teacher. He leads us in the best ways for our life and follows right behind us to keep us safe. He’s got your back! And He has good for you. Much more good and grace than you can even imagine.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him. Ephesians 3:20-21

Consider This: Think about a prayer that God has answered and how He acted for your good. Whether God gave you what you asked for or had a different answer, thank Him for loving you enough to do the very best for you.

Pray: Dear Lord, I surrender to You, and I worship You because You are Awesome and worthy of all I can give. Help me remember this all day long. Do what You want in my life and the lives of those I love. I trust You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
