PRAISE 106.5 artist Dan Bremnes has always been known for writing thoughtful songs inspired by faith, family, and adventure. Dan and his family have a deep love for traveling the world together, and he’s never one to shy away from a challenge.
This summer, that challenge became what Dan calls the “hike of a lifetime.”
Dan and his son Eli set out to conquer British Columbia’s legendary West Coast Trail. A rugged 75-kilometer trek along the coastline of Vancouver Island. The journey took them seven days and six nights, navigating one of Canada’s most demanding and rewarding backpacking trails.

The West Coast Trail stretches from Pachena Bay near Bamfield to Gordon River near Port Renfrew and winds through Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Built more than a century ago as a lifesaving route for shipwreck survivors along the infamous “Graveyard of the Pacific,” today it’s considered one of the world’s premier backcountry hikes. The trail features more than 100 ladders, suspension bridges, cable cars, slippery boardwalks, rocky beaches, deep mud, and challenging tide crossings. Every year, only a few thousand hikers earn permits to take on the adventure.

For Eli, the experience was even more remarkable: it was his first-ever backpacking trip.
“We were pushed and challenged on every level,” Dan shared. “Physical, emotional, mental.”
There were moments when turning back would’ve been the easier choice. There were fears to overcome, obstacles to navigate, and plenty of opportunities to quit.
But they didn’t.

“I was incredibly proud of Eli,” Dan said.
The memories they’ll carry home go far beyond spectacular ocean views and miles conquered.
“We found something out there we’ll never lose.”
