This is going to sound really strange. I understand that, but so much of the show does sound strange, doesn’t it? It’s okay. I think we give ourselves a little too much credit when it comes to just how repugnant we must be to God. A lot of us feel we are because we know we’re sinners. We do wrong things. We’ve rebelled against him. If we don’t acknowledge that, then we’re in denial. We have injured this relationship. It’s things we’ve done. There are selfish things that continue to course through my head or things I actually do that aren’t good. But you know what? The idea that, well, I think God has given up on me. He’s just walked away. He’s done with me after I did that thing yesterday, or I had that thought, or I’ve continued to struggle with this habit, or there’s something I did 20 years ago.
He just decided, that’s too much. Think about all this stuff Jesus actually went through, physically went through just in the last few days of his life. All the grief, the mocking, the beatings, the execution, all of that stuff. If he didn’t bow out, then he didn’t give up on us then, what makes you think that that thing you did was like, nah, that’s too much? I mean, come on. It’s not. He already went through this. He already paid the price for it. He wants us to not run away and shame anymore and actually turn toward him and not away from him.
