He’s only 7 and he’s my little hero.
My niece’s oldest child, Javan, lays in his bed most of the day now, as his will to live loses the battle with his brain tumor. He has fought a good fight but his race is coming to an end, way too early in human years. This event is the focus of his large extended family and the pain is palpable.
The Christian life is so full of paradox. We value life so strongly, yet long for a better place. A place that offers no more pain, no more tears and constant joy. Yet, we hang on to this life and long for others to do so as well. And why not? God has given us a beautiful place with incredible joys. But sin brings sorrow and destruction.
Through his struggle, Javan has reminded me of the question we all should be asking ourselves: What am I chasing after? Is it Earthly joy… only to have it diminished by sorrow and grief? Or, is it eternal joy with my Creator and His children… including my little hero!
