This week’s Gold Star Teacher is Ben Heard, from Noel Booth Elementary!
Nominated by Aimee Macphail:
Mr. Heard is our school’s music teacher. Aside from being an accomplished musician, he brings humour, charisma, and passion to all his classes. He instills in his students not only appreciation for music, but the belief that their voices, their own music is worth sharing. This is evident from the lively concerts where kindergartners belt out solos to the crowd. Every student is expected to participate in music, and eventually learns an instrument. My own son and his class have been part of the first ever Noel Booth Jazz band. Mr Heard has them playing two mornings a week before school, and practicing every day. They have a Facebook page, regularly communicates with parents and uploads videos and other practice aids. They are amazing! My son recently remarked that he is more of a coach than a teacher to them–the band is a team, each with a role to play for a common goal. Everyone belongs and everyone is needed. Thanks for your passion, Mr. Heard! You are teaching so much more than music and we are so grateful that you have shared your gifts with our children.
