Lynette here, PRAISE 106.5. I think that Mother’s Day is one of those holidays that you either embrace because you love it and you love celebrating all the moms in your life, or it can be very difficult. Boy, it was for me about 30 years ago. I was pregnant and lost my baby right before Mother’s Day at 18 and a half weeks. That’s almost halfway there. It was like four and a half months. And I was celebrating Mother’s Day with a friend who didn’t want to be pregnant, and a relative who was just 15 and found herself pregnant and also didn’t want her pregnancy. And it was so hard that year to go through dealing with my feelings, and then their feelings, which of course were valid too. But I bet you know someone who is struggling, perhaps with infertility or maybe lost a child. Or a friend who lost their mom or maybe has a complicated relationship with their mom or no relationship at all.
Mother’s Day brings up so many emotions. So if you’ve got that friend, instead of not saying anything to them, just comfort them and let ’em know that you’re thinking about them. You don’t have to have the perfect words to say, because I don’t think anybody does. Just letting them know that you’re thinking of them and that this must be really hard to celebrate Mother’s Day. In Psalm 34:18, it says, the Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Just a thought for you, because I bet you know someone, or maybe that’s someone is you. You are loved and you’re not alone this Mother’s Day.
