This week’s Gold Star Teacher is Kimberly Preston, from Mount Baker Junior High!
Nominated by Mary Kalsbeek: Our son has struggled with reading and writing since Kindergarten. In 4th grade we created an individual education plan for him. He has made a lot of progress with this in place, but as his elementary days came to an end last year we were worried about the changes Junior High would bring. Ms. Kimberly Preston has made this transition an amazing experience for our family. She has connected with our son and helped cultivate a desire to succeed that has far passed our expectations. The report card that our son brought home a bit over month ago was A’s and B’s with positive comments from each of his teachers.
This confidence in him is something that brings so much joy to his parents hearts. We sat down to review our son’s plan with Ms. Preston earlier this week and as we left the meeting we couldn’t be more thankful that God placed this woman in our son’s life at such an important time. She is challenging him to reach for the stars, encouraging him to grow and learn more each day, and teaching him to be a good and responsible student.
Not only is she an amazing teacher she is also a very talented coach who reaches the athletes in similar ways she reaches her students. Under her coaching our girls varsity basketball team brought home our school’s first state championship in girls basketball a few weeks. For these reasons we feel Ms. Kimberly Preston is a Gold Star Teacher.
