PRAISE 106.5. I’m Lynette. Good morning. Love it when I see praise listeners doing something special for others. Can I introduce you to Sue? Good morning. How are you doing?
Sue:
I’m doing fine, thank you.
Lynette:
And I love the pictures of your pillowcases. You sew very whimsical and fun pillowcases. Why do you do this?
Sue:
Well, I do this because I actually do it for children’s hospitals. Ronald McDonald House is the one that I’ve chosen. And the thing that I really like about their place is that I can make pillowcase for the whole family, because they live there while their child is having treatment at Children’s Hospital. And so, that just kind of resonated with me as far as picking patterns that moms and dads and brothers and sisters and that child can enjoy, and that just cheers them up.
I also make pillowcases for the foster care program. A lot of the kids there, they’re moving from place to place and they use the pillowcases as a suitcase and they get to keep the pillowcase. And that is how I got started, really.
Lynette:
Wow.
Sue:
My friend Patty, she was fostering children who she has now adopted four children. And she was telling me when she found out that I was sewing again, that this was a need. And so that’s kind of how I started. And then I was reading in a magazine that hospitals need these pillowcase for the little kids. And I thought, oh! I sew pillowcases. I can do that. I
Lynette:
Can do that. So what are you working on right now?
Sue:
Well, I actually am going to be delivering 90 pillowcases that I have completed. I love to take ’em in. And I did have the pleasure one time when we dropped a box off of a family that was there, and they heard me talking to the ladies at the counter and they said, are you the pillowcase lady?
Lynette:
The pillowcase lady!
Sue:
And she said, oh, I chose the unicorn one. And she said, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that you do this. And that just warmed my heart. That’s something I don’t normally get to experience. As I’m making the pillowcases, I think about who might be choosing this one. It just gives me pleasure is my sewing studio is my happy place. And I make about three a day. But I’ve also branched out a little bit. I also make children’s aprons and drawstring bags that I give to Operation Christmas Child. So, I am busy all year long and all of my fabric is donated.
Lynette:
Oh, Sue, thank you so much for sharing your story. I love how you’re touching so many people right in our community. Keep doing what you’re doing. You are a true blessing.
