Congrats to the Tuiningas!
Deb’s Story:
“Having grown up in the Catholic Church, Christmas and Easter were particularly important days in my family. On Easter Sunday my whole family attended mass (we did every week but this was more significant), and then my mom would make an incredible Easter brunch for us all. We would spend the whole day together, and then she would put on an even more spectacular dinner! After reflecting on Holy Week the day for us was about celebrating Jesus’ ascension into heaven. We did this through stories, prayer and time together as a family.
It was significant that my dad passed on Easter Sunday. He had been sick for a while, and we knew it was nearing the end. The night before his passing, my siblings and I all had the same feeing that we should spend the night at my mom and dads. In the morning when we woke, my brother said “dad is going to pass today”, and we all agreed that this was a feeling that each of us were convicted of. We celebrated our last Easter together in the usual way… praying, singing, eating good food together. Late in the afternoon my dad took his last breath. (We are convinced, he wanted to spend his last Easter with us, but he was also trying to make it up to heaven in time to reunite with his mom and dad for their Easter dinner!) The moment my dad left was the most peaceful, calm and spirit filled experience I have had. He was clearly seeing Jesus.
The significance of Easter has always been what Jesus has done for us. In our Christian faith that we go forward with, I am so thankful to my dad for always pointing us to Jesus. My husband and I, our 7 kids and our 2 (so far) grandkids will continue the tradition that I was raised with. Even though we don’t all attend the same church, they all make it a priority to come to church with my husband and and I. We will then eat Easter brunch, spend the day reflecting on Jesus through stories then have an even better Easter dinner!”
The Tuiningas were gifted one basket for their family and one to bless another, full of treats and treasures. Thank you to our friends at Walton Beverage for making this possible!
